<p>Brighton, Mich., April 21, 2009 &#8212; RelocateAmerica.com, a website that provides relocating consumers &amp; area residents with access to local community resources has released its annual listing of “America&#8217;s Top 100 Places to live for 2009.”  </p>
<p>“With the increasing concern on our nation’s economy and recovering housing market we approached this year’s list with a different lens than in previous years. We concentrated on the outlook for future growth &amp; ability to rebound in the communities that we selected” said Steve Nickerson, president and CEO. “We looked at the local government &amp; the business leadership in each community as we considered this year’s winners. We selected communities with visionary leaders, improving or thriving economies including housing &amp; realization of “green” initiatives.</p>
<p>In order to be considered for the list a community must be nominated at http://www.RelocateAmerica.com. Relocate-America’s editorial team reviews nominations and selects the TOP100 cities based on interviews with local leaders, feedback from residents and economic, environmental, education, crime, employment and housing data for the past year.</p>
<p>Only cities in the TOP10 are numerically ranked.  </p>

<strong>         (Columbia, SC)</strong> &#8211; Fourth-quarter numbers released by the Federal Housing Finance Agency paint a brighter picture of the local housing market than recent reports have indicated. While the overall housing news remains disquieting, the State of South Carolina continues to fare better than expected.<br />
         The areas hurt most by the housing downturn are almost exclusively in California and Florida. However, anticipated declines in the US market have not been as severe as predicted. According to the report released by the FHFA, home prices actually increased nationally by 0.1 percent in December 2008.<br />
         South Carolina and other neighboring states have managed to avoid the brunt of the down market. The Greenville-Mouldin-Easley area was ranked 13th out of 292 Metropolitan Statistical Areas in the US for its high rate of home appreciation.<br />
        In another analysis, South Carolina ranked 22nd in the country for positive changes in home prices. That same study indicates that almost 60% of the country is experiencing less than 4% depreciation, with some states still seeing appreciation of home values.<br />
         With the stock market in a constant state of upheaval, homes remain a viable long-term investment opportunity. The current home values in the Myrtle Beach area, which has been hard hit by the downturn, are almost double what they were just five years ago. In Columbia, homes are valued at almost 25% more than five years ago, and in Greenville home values have increased by 23% over the last five years.<br />
         Despite the grim reports there is some light on the horizon for the local housing markets. These latest statistics lend much-needed optimism for those interested in buying a home and those who depend on the industry for their livelihood.<br />
         Data from this report is based on the House Price Index, which serves as a broad measure of the movement of single-family house prices. The HPI is published by the Federal Housing Finance Agency using data provided by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We&#8217;re all feeling first hand the effects of an adjusting economy.  Gas prices continue to rise and along with them &#8211; most of our food products.  Listed below are some ways to save at the grocery store.  I&#8217;m interested to see what changes you and your family are making.  Post some money saving tips or ways you are weathering the recession.</p>
<p>1.  Choosing generic or house brands can help you save up to 40% over brand name products.</p>
<p>2.  Shop early in the day and alone. You&#8217;ll be less likely to give in to impulse buys or distractions.</p>
<p>3.  Avoid purchasing non-grocery items such as toothpaste, contact solution, etc.  It may be convenient but it will cost more than purchasing at a drug store.</p>
<p>4.  Plan meals around items that are already in your pantry.</p>
<p>5. The most expensive items are placed on middle shelves at eye level. Look up and down for better savings.</p>
<p>6. Use coupons only on items you were going to buy anyway.</p>
<p>Some good news in the midst of all this economic turmoil is the net worth you build when you own a home.  Interest rates are at historic lows and home prices have dropped significantly.  Despite all the bad news out there, this is actually the best time to buy a home.  It&#8217;s a safe long-term investment.</p>
